Position Summary
The Senior Dispute Resolution Specialist conducts thorough, accurate, and timely investigations of complex consumer credit reporting disputes. This role reviews account information and supporting documentation, determines the appropriate resolution, documents each investigation, and ensures credit information is reported accurately in accordance with company policies, industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. As an experienced team member, the specialist also identifies recurring issues, supports process improvements, and provides peer guidance that strengthens quality and the customer experience.
In the Role
- Investigate and resolve direct and indirect consumer credit reporting disputes, including complex or escalated cases, within established service and regulatory timeframes.
- Analyze account histories, system records, correspondence, and supporting documentation to determine whether reported information is complete, accurate, and supported.
- Determine and complete the appropriate resolution, including validating, correcting, or deleting credit reporting information when supported by the investigation.
- Document the evidence reviewed, investigative steps, decision rationale, and final outcome clearly and accurately in designated systems.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and professional dispute responses for consumers, credit reporting agencies, and authorized internal partners.
- Prioritize assigned disputes by receipt date, complexity, and urgency to meet quality, service-level, and regulatory requirements.
- Apply company procedures, credit reporting standards, and applicable requirements consistently while maintaining complete, audit-ready records and protecting confidential information.
- Recognize recurring reporting concerns, control gaps, or potential systemic issues and escalate them promptly through established channels.
- Participate actively in team meetings, calibration discussions, training, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Maintain current process knowledge, complete required training, and support team coverage across assigned dispute categories.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; additional education or relevant professional training preferred.
- Experience in credit bureau disputes, credit reporting, financial services operations, account research, regulatory operations, or a related customer service function preferred.
- Working knowledge of credit reporting practices and the Fair Credit Reporting Act preferred.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to evaluate multiple sources of information and make well-supported decisions.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate, complete, and timely work.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex findings professionally.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and perform effectively in a time-sensitive environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams, share knowledge, accept feedback, and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialized dispute, servicing, and credit reporting systems.
