Pay for this role is up to $215,872 (base salary plus 401(k) matching plus time entry bonus).

Attorneys are encouraged to determine the number of hours they want to work, ranging from 20 to 40 hours per week, and choose their own annual billable-hour requirement between 700 and 1,410 hours.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Data Privacy Law Transactional Attorney. Depending on years of experience and quality of work product, the role may be structured at the Partner, Counsel, or Senior Associate level.

This can be either a full-time or part-time position and is fully remote within the United States, with flexible hours as long as you remain available to clients.

You will work with sophisticated enterprise clients on a wide variety of data privacy, marketing law, and transactional matters. For the right individual, this opportunity can also provide a path toward broader firm leadership.

What You'll Do

Data Privacy Law

Advise clients on a broad range of data privacy counseling and transactional matters, including:

• U.S. federal and state privacy laws
• CCPA/CPRA
• Emerging state comprehensive privacy laws
• Privacy requirements affecting websites, applications, products, services, and business operations
• Privacy issues involving marketing campaigns and systems
• Data collection, use, sharing, retention, and disclosure
• Data vendor relationships
• Privacy-by-design considerations
• Data processing and international data-transfer requirements and transactions
  
  

Translate complicated and rapidly changing legal requirements into clear, practical advice that business teams can actually use.

Privacy Documentation & Agreements

• Draft, review, and negotiate:
• Privacy policies
• Website and application privacy notices
• Terms of use
• Data Processing Agreements (DPAs)
• Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)
• Data-security provisions
• Vendor privacy provisions
• Technology and commercial agreements containing privacy obligations
• Company privacy policies and procedures
• Data incident response plans
  
  

You should be comfortable identifying and negotiating key risk-allocation provisions, including:

• Indemnification
• Limitation of liability
• Warranties
• Insurance
• Data security
• Confidentiality

Privacy Programs & Compliance

Assist Clients With

• Designing and implementing global privacy programs
• Maintaining privacy programs as laws and business practices evolve
• Privacy compliance assessments
• Data privacy audits
• Data mapping and related compliance exercises
• Internal privacy policies and procedures
• Employee privacy training and guidance
• Privacy governance
• Vendor and third-party privacy risk
• Incident preparedness and tabletop exercises
• Regulatory developments and compliance planning
  
  

Data Security & Incident Response

Advise Clients Before, During, And After Data-security Incidents, Including

• Developing incident response plans
• Preparing tabletop exercises
• Assessing legal obligations following an incident
• Supporting incident investigations
• Advising on notification and response obligations
• Coordinating with business, security, technology, and other legal stakeholders
• Helping clients build stronger incident-preparedness programs
  
  

You may also review software applications—including backend functionality and user experience—for privacy, security, and broader legal compliance.

Attorneys are expected to serve as practical business advisors, providing thoughtful legal guidance that aligns with clients’ business objectives.

What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience specifically practicing data privacy law
• Strong understanding of U.S. privacy and data-security laws
• Experience drafting and negotiating DPAs, privacy provisions, and commercial agreements
• Strong client counseling skills
• Ability and willingness to learn and handle a broad range of transactional matters
• Experience hiring, onboarding, and training attorneys
• Ability to manage significant client work while contributing to firm leadership
• Excellent attention to detail
• A practical, business-minded approach to legal service
• A strong work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond
• Genuine kindness and strong relationship-building skills
• Willingness to listen, learn, and improve

Education

• Graduation from a Top 60 U.S. law school OR graduation in the top 20% of your law school class
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with enterprise in-house legal departments
• Experience serving as a secondment or embedded legal resource
• Experience with sophisticated consumer-facing brands
• Experience counseling on privacy issues that intersect with marketing
• Experience with technology transactions
• Experience with SaaS and marketing technology
• CIPP/US or CIPP/E certification
• Experience with GDPR and international privacy requirements
