Our Customer is an American financial services mutual organization based in Milwaukee. The financial security company provides consultation on wealth and asset income protection, education planning, retirement planning, investment advisory services, financial planning trust and private client services, estate planning and business planning. Its products include life insurance, permanent life insurance, disability income, and long-term care insurance; annuities; investments; and investment advisory products and services.
Our customer is looking for an Accountant on a contract basis to help support their ongoing business needs. This role is on-site in Milwaukee, WI.

Responsibilities
- Perform financial accounting functions and related control activities for assigned products and processes
- Ensure accounting activities comply with statutory accounting standards
- Verify the accuracy of system-generated and manual accounting entries
- Research and resolve reconciliation issues, accounting imbalances, and open suspense items
- Participate in monthly close activities
- Prepare and process journal entries
- Perform account reconciliations and financial analyses
- Support large-scale corporate accounting projects
- Create new accounts, reports, and accounting processes
- Test system changes and evaluate their accounting impact
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Strong understanding of accounting principles
- Experience preparing journal entries, including debits and credits
- Experience participating in month-end close activities
- Experience performing account reconciliations
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including maintaining and manipulating worksheets
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook for email and calendaring
