Lead Pharmacy Technician:
The Lead Pharmacy Technician, under the direction and supervision of a pharmacist, will assist in the preparation, dispensing, charging, and delivery of medications to patients. Lead Pharmacy Technician also provides leadership and serves as a role model for other pharmacy technicians during the performance of daily pharmacy activities and training.

Responsibilities:

  • Completes projects assigned by Pharmacy Leadership related to growing PursueCare and general pharmacy business. Consistently communicates courteously and professionally when interacting with customers and coworkers.  Respects confidentiality and established boundaries when providing information. Consistently reports any issues or problems to PIC as soon as possible. Consistently demonstrates professionalism by displaying flexibility, positive attitude, respect for individuals, and commitment to the organization, department, profession, and patient. Consistently delivers high-quality, accurate work promptly.

  • Acts as a role model for other technicians about work habits, job performance, attitude, and professionalism. Assures that fellow technicians are properly trained about all pharmacy operations. Assures that training schedules and checklists are scheduled and completed promptly including baseline competencies. Takes a lead role in determining and implementing technician workflow. Reassigns technician work duties daily to compensate for unforeseen issues. Assumes responsibility for assuring that all assigned special projects are completed within a reasonable period of time. Demonstrates flexibility in work assignments and location.

  • Assists Pharmacists with medication delivery and patient care. Participates in special projects as required or assigned. Assists in training new employees about work procedures. Maintains pharmacy in a clean, orderly, and safe manner by restocking shelves, cleaning workstations, returning medications to stock, etc. Maintains current knowledge and competency in USP 797, USP 795, and USP 800 guidelines and assures other pharmacy technicians do the same.

  • Inspects medications in assigned areas. Removes expired products and completes documentation. Understanding and compliance with handling procedures of all controlled substances. Displays teamwork by actively supporting department changes and willingly and proactively assists co-workers. Assures work for each shift is completed before departure.

  • Demonstrates an understanding and ability to use current equipment including electronic workflow systems, printers, computers, fax machines, telephones, POS, etc. Reviews transmit and receive wholesaler orders as required. Reconciles third-party payments. Assists in proper inventory maintenance of drugs and supplies ordered and stored by the pharmacy. Assists in the creation, handling, and maintenance of a variety of pharmacy records, to promote the efficient operation of the pharmacy and assure regulatory compliance.

  • Accurate preparation, labeling, and packaging of medications for dispensing under the supervision of the pharmacist. Prepare and compound medications under the supervision of the pharmacist. Assists patients at drop-off and or pick up and obtains pertinent patient information for inclusion into the electronic profile. Answers telephone using appropriate verbiage, screen, and triage inquiries. Interprets, performs necessary pharmaceutical calculations, and enters prescriptions into the pharmacy information system for pharmacist review. Completes all necessary documentation. Communicates with third-party payers to obtain adjudication of prescription claims.

 
Qualifications

  • Must possess the knowledge, skill, physical ability, and mental capacity to perform the typical duties and responsibilities enumerated below or implicit therein.

  • Extensive knowledge and complete understanding of all facets of retail pharmacy.

  • Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) obtained and maintained including required continuing education credits.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Education requirement (one of the following is required): College Degree (minimally an Associate's degree) in a science or healthcare field with a minimum of 3 years retail pharmacy experience College Degree (minimally an Associate's degree) in a non-healthcare related field with 5 years of experience in a medication-related healthcare role.
