This is a hybrid role (three days per week at our HQ in Chicago, IL) and will report directly to the Accounting Manager.

The Role

Crafty is seeking a Staff Accountant to report to the Accounting Manager. This role will primarily focus on month-end close but will also involve other accounting areas and cross-training. Key responsibilities include:

  • Month-End Close: Record journal entries, prepare reconciliations, and assist in building close processes, including systems implementation and internal reporting with the data team.
  • Accounts Receivable: Assist the Senior Accounts Receivable Specialist with reviewing overdue balances, following up with clients biweekly, and uploading invoices into client portals.
  • Cash Flow Support: Support cash flow initiatives by assisting in the tracking of AR collections, payment timing, and vendor payment scheduling to help improve working capital efficiency.
  • Client Contract System Setup: Provide support in the process of setting up client accounts in our Crafty internal system, including contracts, payment profiles, recurring orders, and updating systems like Tableau, NetSuite, and HubSpot.
  • Accounts Payable: Accurately input and process invoices into our expense management system (Ramp).
  • Client Billing Collaboration: Collaborate with the Client Success and Data teams to support client billing accuracy and timeliness, helping to investigate discrepancies and suggest process improvements.
  • Sales Tax: Perform monthly reconciliations between Crafty’s internal system and our tax automation platform (Avalara).
  • Management Analysis: Work closely within the accounting department to complete in-depth analysis for company fluctuations on a month-over-month basis for Crafty’s income statement and balance sheet. Support regional financial analysis by helping track revenue and expenses by fulfillment market, contributing to the analysis of market-level profitability and performance.
  • Other: Assist with external audit requests, streamline accounting processes, ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal controls, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for recurring accounting tasks to support process consistency and future scalability.

This role offers opportunities for cross-training in other accounting areas to enhance team efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance: You adhere to relevant financial regulations, internal controls, and industry standards, proactively identifying and mitigating risks in accounts receivable, accounts payable, and broader accounting activities.

Ideal Experience

  • A minimum of either:
    • An Associate Degree in Accounting plus 2 years relevant work experience (as detailed above) or,
    • 4 years of relevant work experience (as detailed above).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including but not limited to pivot tables, standard formulas, v-lookups, and index/match).
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC Rules and regulations.
  • Experience with NetSuite is a plus.

Goals

  • Close Accuracy & Timing: Contribute to the team’s objective of completing the monthly financial close process within 6 business days, maintaining fewer than 2 post-close adjustments per quarter by September 2025.
  • Reconciliation Completion: Ensure 100% completion of all monthly account reconciliations by Day 5 of each close cycle, starting in September 2025.

Our compensation amount for this role is targeted at $60,000 - $70,000 per year in Chicago, IL. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including cost of living based on location, candidate experience, and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
