Director of Research and Technology

Company Overview:

Amplified Sciences is a startup life science diagnostics company focused on accurately

detecting and pre-empting the risks of debilitating diseases, including lethal cancers and organ

loss. Our R&D operations, located in Purdue Research Park, collaborate with research alliances

in San Francisco and Boston. We're developing a portfolio of diagnostic assays for early

disease detection. An ultra-sensitive molecular sensing technology licensed from Purdue tech

transfer operates with novel test-strips that combine with portable instrumentation to form a

highly versatile clinical assay platform that can scale to point of care.

Role:

As the Director of Research and Technology, you'll oversee all lab activities, including

experiment design, assay development, technical validation, and preparing the platform for a

lab-developed test in a CLIA environment. Reporting directly to the CSO, you'll implement

strategies to create and implement new innovations and products. This role is pivotal in

supporting the global vision developed by Senior Managerial Leadership. You'll design and

customize systems and platforms to enhance product offerings and customer experiences. The

ideal candidate must have an advanced background in biochemical technologies, a proven track

record of successful research, and excel in team management. This position requires an

individual who can remain up to date with advancements within the research field and area of

commercialization. Additionally, the Director of Research and Technology must thrive in an

innovative and rapidly growing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Research:

• Lead assay design and development.

• Oversee dye and reagent development and manufacturing.

• Define and develop grant and contract proposals.

• Be responsible for identification and resource allocation to capture and/or manage intellectual

property of the company.

• Competitive landscape analysis.

• Attend and present at relevant industry conferences.

• Identify, establish, and foster key outside talent and capabilities for collaboration to accelerate

research and product development to the point of market launch

• Possess a lab-based problem-solving mindset with proficiency in chemistry-based product

concepts.

• Creative thinker with interdisciplinary expertise spanning chemistry, biology, and physics, with

a track record of innovation and developing novel solutions.

Product Development Expertise:

• Define criteria and optimize product offerings.

• Select and implement suitable technology/automation processes.

• Ensure successful translation of products to CLIA lab

• Oversee technological infrastructure.

• Manage manufacturing, cost analysis, and risk management.

• Ensure technical and clinical validation.

Project Management:

• Define technology development tasks, objectives, resources, and budget for the research

development team.

• Budget Management for the lab.

• Vendor selection and oversight.

• Set quality standards and manage the quality system.

• Manage product projects with external collaborations.

Leadership Capabilities:

• Serve on the company’s leadership team

• Manage Research and Development scientific team and ensure successful performance and

implement development plans for the team.

• Motivate skill development in others.

• Provide guidance and feedback to management on implementing best practices.

• Recruit suitable talent for open positions.

• Oversee the evaluation process for new applications and product offerings with members of

the management team.

• Take leading roles in the development of proposals for sponsored grants and contracts to

enable product development and/or research services.

Key Requirements:

• PhD required (Analytical Chemistry, Clinical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related) +5 years in

the life science industry.

• Background in biochemical technologies with experience in clinical lab execution preferred.

• IVD preferred, or novel biomarker development for pharma.

• Proven track record of successful research and peer-reviewed publications.

• Experiences with optical spectroscopy preferred (optic readers, data extraction, and data

analysis).

• Experience supporting commercial products.

• Excellent leadership skills and focus on the career development of people; experience

managing laboratory personnel.

• Strong communication skills with senior leadership, Board, and investors.

• A demonstrated history of working at the highest levels of health and safety, personal integrity,

and ethics.

• Experience in a startup or fast-paced, dynamic environment is advantageous.

Job Details:

• Work will be performed in West Lafayette, Indiana
